Your Character
Your character is yours and your journeymates' vessels with which to navigate the worlds set before you either by the official modules of Project: Nameless Journey or your Journey Master. They are what you make of them and are as engaged as you are. They may be a mirror of your real-world self, the person you always wished you were, or a parody of popular culture; they may be bright, dimwitted, charismatic, brave, or cowardly. The shards of their existence are for you to write. For them to function in a Journey, however, they must have each of the following, which will hopefully be laid out in a comprehensible manner.
The aspects of your character are designed in such a way that if you want to play it, you likely can. If you want to build a frontline magic-user, you might select Defender and Duelist or Mage and Mercenary. If you want to focus all in on support or damage, you might pick Healer and Tactician or Fighter and Mercenary.
Class & Job
There are five classes to choose from which will give you key traits that allow your character to fulfill an archetypal role within your adventuring party. Defender – Draw the attention of your enemies and then shrug their attacks off. Fighter – a skilled hand to hand combatant who threatens fleeing targets. Healer – a magic-user whose restorative magic packs more potency than others'. Mage – a caster whose capacity for aetherial manipulation outclasses their peers. And Scout – an adventurer who's accustomed to living on the road and excels at sneaking even when slightly encumbered.
Your Class determines your Hit Points and grants you proficiencies for armor, shields, tools, saving throws, and skills. Worry not about weapon proficiencies, those are granted by your Job. You select your Class at level 1 and your Job at level 3.
Your Job grants you the majority of your traits and offers the most Job/Class identity.
Lineage
Before you select your Class and, eventually, Job. You may want to choose your lineage. This serves the function of what are traditionally called races and determines your visual and physical characteristics as well as some useful traits. Please note that the verbiage has been changed to better suit the vision for Project: Nameless Journey.
Background
This is the life you led before embarking on your journey. It largely determines your social status and grants social traits which may help you along the way.
Overclass
From level 13 and onward, you'll gain new traits from your Overclass.
